This company is a complete scam. We decided to go with Chris as the writer & he unexpectedly left the project. We were arbitrarily given a new writer, and he would not honor the terms we were given by the original writer. We were promised a certain price for writing the book and publishing. They lied about this. We were also promised 100% satisfaction guarantee or our money back, which they also lied about. As some of the other reviews have said they’re truly a scam, save your money. We’ve been in business for 17 years so trust us when we say this company is completely fraudulent, do not use them.

I made a review before and was asked to take it down to give them a chance to make it right. That was back in July I have reached point where I feel like I’ve given ample chances to no avail. I wish I could just get a refund and be done at this point, but an unhappy review will have to do.

I want to say that this is NOT a reflection on the designs because they are SO SO cute and the designers really got the “colorful kid friendly” book. The illustrators hit a tight deadline and for that I’m grateful.

This is 100% a reflection on project management and marketing. I came to Hancock Publishing after my original illustrator backed out due to other obligations. I started in February asking for a May deadline. That was loosely hit as there were still changes to be made but the effort was there. This began in February, it’s the middle of November and I still don’t have a complete copy. I have to send multiple follow ups via email and text to even get a response months later. The last copy I received was supposed to be a final, but I sent it back with multiple edits that honestly should have been caught with proofreading. It was sloppy.

I was so excited about this book and my steam has run out. I paid for extra spreads that weren’t used, only to be told the book was “too wordy” and had to show them where it could be broken up into smaller phrases. As someone working in design, that should be part of the job. I asked to see the new spreads and was given an out of order book with the new spreads and told I should be more excited. What do I have to be excited about when you can’t take the time to organize the pages?

I was then talked into marketing. I had explained to Nathan our situation, not that I owe anyone an explanation for how I budget, but for the understanding that other larger expenses had higher priority. Marketing wasn’t something I had originally thought about or budgeted for but I gave them a budget number and told them to see what they could do. I understand it wasn’t a large budget, and I don’t expect anything for free, but they came back with a quote almost 4X what I gave them. Not a great way to feel heard or respected as a client. We finally made something work, under the conditions that my child’s face was NOT to be shown in any social medias. They did the opposite and put his face all over Instagram, Facebook, and tik tok. It took almost 4 hours for a call back with an explanation as to what happened, while in the mean time I was getting emails stating that international logins were being attempted. They said it had something to do with how they route IP addresses but for a parent whose child’s face was not to be shown, to have that follow shortly after was unsettling. It shouldn’t have happened.

I had given them access to a 700+ follower Instagram account and whatever they did got it suspended. See screenshot attached.

I then tried to create a Facebook page for the book and was struggling to do so. I asked for help and instead of helping was given a YouTube video to follow. That also got suspended and there was no follow through to get it set up.

I wish this was a better experience because it started off great, but it didn’t end that way

The support team is very responsive and offers a great value to money. I took advantage of the bulk discount feature and that's been working out for my blog project quite nicely. Work isn't bad - only needed a couple of edits on one or two posts. I ordered 50 blogs, so that's been a good experience. I'd recommend working with them.

The experience was horrible, I had a rush job that I submitted on Friday and needed back by Monday to meet a deadline. They were aware of this and promised to have it done by then. I received it at end of business day on Monday and common misspelled words that Grammarly and spellcheck would have caught they missed. Then they explain it aware that it's my fault because of the time constraint and now allow them to have a second editor look it over. I was more than clear about the deadline, and they dropped the ball. Had I not looked the revised book edition they sent back over it would have gone to publication with those errors. Whatever you do, do not go with this company they are a scam and are only after your money.

Do not do business with this company! It is a waste of money and they appear to be a fraud. The promised one thing and then when I paid them they said I needed something different and request $5,000 when I said no they said $4,000 I refused and they said how much more can I pay. They did the proofreading of a 3rd grader and even admitted to all their errors. The did the cover which they could not even do correctly I ended up sending them the stock photos and let them choose one which should be New Orleans instead it was New ENGLAND! They even spelled the title of the book incorrectly on the cover. It is as if they never read the book. They have been reported to the California Better Business Bureau, The California Attorney General and The Consumer Protection agency for unfair trade practices. Do not use this company beware!

The company offers ghostwriting as their primary service and I ordered the same so I'm guessing that's their specialty. My book was pretty long but it took them just a month to deliver the entire book. I did go with the rush order though. I don't mind it as long as companies do what they promise. I was deilvered whatever I was promised, so it's a yes from me.
