Unfortunately, I had a horrible experience with Joshua Tree Publishing. I had submitted my query and my writing, to which John Paul Owles said he wanted to work with me and publish my book. He said he was "touched by my writing and authenticity", that my book "would touch people, inspire, and encourage them through dark places in their lives". A week later he said he would only publish my book if it was through Centaur Books, a new start up where authors contributed to costs and that I would have to pay him $500 to publish my book. This was different than the traditional publishing service that Joshua Tree Publishing advertises, where there are no costs for the author to publish, but John Paul Owles claims to be for and believe in authors, so I put aside my worries and signed the contract he sent, and sent it back to him. I asked him to send me back the contract once he had signed it before I sent him the $500, so I could have the completely signed contract and the assurance that my $500 would go towards my book being published. Instead of doing that, or reacting in any rational or normal way, he claimed that me asking that gave him a reason to not trust me, and completely canceled the contract, saying he was no longer willing to publish my book. I'm so glad I didn't send him the money, because I don't think my book would have ended up being published in any case, but god it is so disheartening. Don't fall into this trap, I think it's all a scam, and I think a lot of the positive reviews aren't from real authors as Jordi7174 and Grace Austin previously pointed out. John, if you are reading this, I hope that in the future you actually treat your authors as well as you claim you do.

The comments from Grace Austin are absolutely correct according to my own personal experience and opinion. Please, please exercise as much caution as possible with this oily company. And if you should not see any of the profits from your book in the allotted time period stated in your contract, contact the Illinois department of labor as soon as possible.

And furthermore, please take note of the fact that many of the complimentary reviews were suddenly added after myself and Grace Austin posted our less than flattering reviews.

This is a publisher posing as the real thing when in reality it is a retired person who charges large fees (I paid $2500.00) for "professional editing". He writes up professional looking contacts that he does not fulfill. Be careful! I think it is a scam.
