I've been taking remote lessons online with Barry Wehrli for the last year -- I'm an adult beginner who just wanted to learn a new skill. I am a current student of Barry for about 2 years now. He is an extremely talented teacher and he is amazing at teaching the fundamentals and building upon them. He is also very organized, which makes the learning process much easier. I currently have three of his books made specifically for teaching piano to beginners. All of them are extremely well written and thorough. He is also great at explaining more complex techniques and music theory. I have been an adult student of Barry for almost one year. He is very good at teaching fundamentals, and I particularly like his attention to the technical details of piano playing. He is great at making complex concepts easy to understand. He has been accommodating to my ever changing schedule, which is important for me. What I appreciated most about my experience taking lessons with Barry is his consistency as a piano teacher. Consistency is the through-line, and it shows in his professional and encouraging personality, in the energy that he brings to his teaching, and most importantly in his method, which emphasizes a structured, practical, and step-by-step approach to technical improvement at the instrument. Whenever I was discouraged at my progress, Barry would be quick to illustrate objectively how I had improved through the exercises he had assigned, thereby reassuring me of the value of my practice efforts. He was always willing to work with me to assign exercises that fit within my wants, needs, and limitations as a player. As an adult returning to the piano after a long hiatus, I benefited greatly from his experienced approach and clear perspective. For these reasons and more I would highly recommend Barry Wehrli as a piano teacher!

I moved my daughter to Barry for piano lessons after 7 years with another instructor. Here's the basic difference. The other instructor taught Batya how to play songs. Barry teaches how to play piano. He has an excellent series of books that he has authored to provide a framework for the kids to learn. He has extraordinary patience with his students. There is a quiet structured environment for the one on one sessions. The quality of the instruction is top notch. Barry is a real pro who not only loves kids but loves his trade. I highly recommend him if you are considering piano lessons for yourself or for your children.

I've been taking piano lessons from Barry for the past few years and he might be the most exceptional teacher I've ever had — incredibly patient and analytical. I've seen strong and steady growth in my skills throughout my studies with him and am very happy with what I've accomplished. In addition to being a great in-person instructor I'm actually more impressed with his published instructional books - esp the Mastering Intervals Book and Piano/Keyboard Technique book. They're all so well designed and challenging, yet rewarding and straightforward.
