Maya was an exceptional private teacher and educational consultant for our family during a year of homeschooling. She gained a deep understanding of our 7-year-old son’s learning and communication styles and tailored their sessions to his interests and learning goals. Our son was excited to work with her on interdisciplinary projects like dissecting flowers, growing food, and writing stories based on their scientific research. Maya incorporated social-emotional learning into every activity, and her focus on strengths enabled our son to stretch beyond his comfort zone.

Maya’s experience as a gifted educator also shone through her consulting work. She provided quality recommendations for resources and service providers and had countless creative ideas for learning activities. Maya approached every interaction with understanding and compassion, and we are grateful for her contributions to our son’s education and personal growth.

Maya’s way of teaching is far beyond that of a traditional teacher. She asks a lot of questions and lets me figure out things by myself. Maya encourages me to research with powerful words and that benefits me because I can look up things I don’t know. Maya is kind and creative. She starts the sessions with fun warmup activities. My favorite part about my time with Maya is that we can do real activities and explore the real world. Overall, I have an excellent time with Maya!

Whole Child Education is exactly what the name entails. It is education based upon all aspects of the learner, not just the academics. Through deep emotional connection and student led learning, it is the perfect opportunity for your child. I began working with Maya in 3rd grade, because I wasn't being challenged enough academically. From there, our relationship developed and we began to move beyond the academic and started focusing on me as a human. From there I began to grow as an individual as well as a student. As I grew older and eventually graduated out of WCE, I still retained a connection with Maya. Her teaching style and our connection truly shaped me into the person that I am today.

I have known Maya as a teacher, colleague, and friend for 16 years. She wowed me from the start - seeing her in action in her beautiful 3rd grade classroom at Nueva, getting to know each child as a unique and talented student. She honed in on student’s interests, strengths and fortified weaknesses, all with a deep respect and understanding of the learning process. Our son has been working with Maya on a one-on-one basis for three years. Over these three years, we witnessed him transform from an extremely reluctant writer to someone who's not only comfortable expressing his thoughts in written form but also finds a lot of enjoyment in doing so. Talking to Maya changed our perspective to look at our kid. We could better analyze the day-to-day struggles and respond in not only a better but empathic way. This improved our communication to a great extent leading to much fewer conflicts and fruitful outcomes.

We see our sweet and empathic child back, and we have observed very less transition tantrums. Chores are getting done and she chooses to discuss her emotions with us as she now feels less emotionally vulnerable.

We understand this is a continuous path and we will constantly have hurdles but we love the fact that Maya is always a phone call away and always ready to help. We recently had such a situation arise and Maya could help us immediately at that moment.
