The process that I used to select Caroleen’s consultation was through and email of hers posted on Instagram.

To move the manuscript to a book I needed an editor. But where do I turn to find someone. I about exhausted myself in asking coworkers friends and a few family members, but the answer was always the same “no I do not know of anyone.” In talking, a friend casually mentioned that people are turning to social media as an avenue to find anything. I head the statement but shoved it to the back of my mind thinking “no way.” Then one day while scrolling through a certain social media platform, I chanced typing in the search bar the words “Book Editor.” Wow! So many profiles popped up but how do I choose and is anyone trustworthy. There are so many advertising their services and being honest I do not trust people that easily especially with so many wolves hiding in sheep’s clothing. This is because of the dishonest society we live in. Anyway, I reached out to my current editor to ask a question, do you edit manuscripts? She responded I would say a day or two after. But I began to have reservations and did not get back to her for a few months or it could be weeks, I do not remember.
I am thinking now to myself I reached out twice but did not follow up. Again, the doubt kicked in making me hesitant to move forward knowing the exchange of funds will be involved with a total stranger. I was just thinking what if I lose my money. I again reached out to another advertising her services but the vibe she was giving caused me to shrink within myself. She was all about modeling the latest designer outfits and traveling to various destinations. Finally, I stepped out in faith to the first potential editor Caroleen. It was just something that kept pulling me back to her and the experience have been positive. Such professionalism.
This is my first rodeo in terms of getting my manuscript edited. When I first sat down to have a one-on-one consultation with Caroleen, I remember her saying “I am not here to change you story or words.” Right away I felt reassures that my story line will remain mine. True to her word, all that was needed, was to fix the present tense, past tense the dialogue and a bit of shifting around some of the paragraphs to help create a more cohesive flow to my book.
Another key factor that I admire about Caroleen is that she produced contracts, which outline her survives and obligations as an editor to me the client. She also included a timeline for getting the manuscript completed.

Hiring Caroleen as an editor gave me hope that this dream of being a first-time editor is really happening.

I am happy that I trusted my gut and choose Caroleen as my editor. I will continue to use her services as my book editor. As mentioned before my fear of trusting strangers especially from a social media setting. This first book is a series of three, and as Caroleen is familiar with the characters, and their actions she will be able to better guide me with dos and don’ts as I press forward with my remaining books.
